Eight Coordinates of the Immaterial Lineage · Chronological Flow
Within the twentieth-century lineage of conceptual art, this is the chronological flow of coordinates that discarded form and proceeded toward the immaterial. Since Yves Klein's 1957–62 works were established as a representative coordinate, each artist entered invisible elements while retaining a mediating apparatus or support as a condition of the work's existence.
| Year | Artist | Work / Coordinate | Mediating Apparatus / Support |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1958 | Yves Klein | «Le Vide» | Gallery space, walls, air |
| 1959–62 | Yves Klein | Zones of Immaterial Pictorial Sensibility | Ritual, contract, gold, receipt burning |
| 1961 | Piero Manzoni | Artist's Breath · Merda d'Artista | Balloon, tin can, artist's body |
| 1968 | Robert Barry | Inert Gas Series | Release apparatus, atmosphere, photographic record |
| 1969– | Michael Asher | Gallery air-flow installations | Spatial structure, HVAC apparatus |
| 1970s– | James Turrell | Light works · Skyspace | Architecture, lighting apparatus |
| 2007 | Olafur Eliasson | The Weather Project | Artificial mist, colored light, reflector |

Lineage B · Triple Inclusion Layers
This coordinate is a site where three layers — matter, body, and immaterial — are triply included upon a single support (charcoal paper 12×12cm). Naturally foraged elemental pigment establishes the material layer; the author's and companion animals' bodily elements establish the bodily layer; and the credit designation establishes the immaterial layer. Coordinate registration · 2024.10.31 (discourse-channel declaration) · Physical production · 2024.11.27.
| Layer | Mode of Establishment | Included Element / Medium |
|---|---|---|
| Support | Physical medium | Charcoal paper · 12cm×12cm |
| Matter · Natural elements | Foraged by author · pulped · dyed | Plum blossom · iris → natural pigment → charcoal-paper dyeing |
| Matter · Bodily elements | Physical attachment | Dog hair (naturally shed by four Sapsal dogs) + author's hair |
| Immaterial · Naming inclusion | Author's credit designation and description | Soul · energy · qi · wind · light · gene |
| Masterworks · Self-naming inclusion | Listed in credit | «Ode to a Departed Sister» (Silla-era hyangga by Wolmyeongsa) · «Cerberus» (William Blake) · …… |
